Our History

85 Years of Textiles

Spector Textile Products was founded by Louis Spector in 1937.  Recognizing the value of recycling fabric and textile waste, Louis took advantage of the hundreds of textile factories and manufacturing facilities in the Merrimack Valley as a source for recycled fibers.  Working with associates, Mr. Spector sorted, graded and repackaged these fibers and cloth materials for resale to other companies.

For more than 50 years, Spector Textile Products was a leading supplier of wiping rags and cloths to industry through New England.

In 1979, Howard Spector joined the family business and grew into several new areas of business development.  Spector Textile Products line of products grew into a manufacturing facility producing painters’ drop cloths, spray socks and commercial wiping cloths.  In 1984, the Clean Cloths Brand of wipers hit retail paint and hardware stores along the east coast.  In addition, a full line of paper products was introduced.  This allowed current customers to supply their offices with toilet tissue, paper towels and janitorial items all from one source.

In 1995, Spector Textile Products entered the dry cleaning and laundry market with custom screen printed laundry bags and several varieties of mesh bag products.  The laundry bag business grew to become the leading product group for the company.  Currently, Spector Textile Products laundry bags and products are distributed throughout North America through over 40 distributors and independent sales representatives.

In 2007, Spector Textile Products moved from its 12,000 sq. foot facility on Bay State Road to an 85,000 sq. foot facility on Embankment Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts.  Expanded production and manufacturing space as well as generous inventory and storage space has helped the company grow to meet its customer demands for just-in-time delivery of inventoried goods.

Today, Spector Textile Products employs over 30 skilled sewing machine operators, supervisors and material management personnel.  The company is engaged in several areas of new product development through its R&D department and continues to grow.
